PROPER STEERING PUMP RATIO
PROPER P/S PUMP RATIO IS 50% OF CRANK SPEED
MAX P/S PUMP RPM: 5500
MORE THAN 5500, THE SUPPLY LINE CANNOT KEEP UP WITH THE PUMP THUS STARVING THE PUMP WHICH RESULTS IN AN OVERHEATED STEERING SYSTEM
PUMP TEMPERATURE READINGS
160º = NORMAL TEMP. 180º = WARM TEMP. 200º = PERMANENT DAMAGE TO SYSTEM
P/S PUMP RPM = CRANK PULLEY DIA. = ? X MAX. ENGINE RPM
P/S PULLEY DIA.
Examples:
P/S Pump RPM = 3” = .5 X 8000 = 4000 (SAFE RPM)
6”
P/S Pump RPM = 6” = 1 X 8000 = 8000 (DAMAGING RPM)
6”
Solutions:
1. 3” Arbor on front of crank with separate belt to P/S Pump
OR
2. 3” Pulley in front of Water Pump Pulley with separate belt to P/S Pump
NOTE: ANY OVERDRIVEN P/S PUMP IS DAMAGED PERMANENTLY
& NEEDS REPLACEMENT !
